Welcome to my latest notebook session where I experiment with overlapping strips of watercolour paint and patterns in black and white pen ontop. I started with horizontal strips of every purple shade I have in my watercolour pencils collection. Once they had dried, I did the same vertically with brown watercolour paint. Together they create a nice warm toned pattern. Because the paint is translucent, I ended up with even more colours where they overlapped one another. Each page has a different approach, one with a precise, thick, black outline, and the other with loose organic lines. I worked on this spread over many months here and there. It was over such a long time that I started experimenting with different black and white pens along the way so the right pen is using the finer nibbed Tikky Rotring and Uniball Signo, and the left is using the slightly thicker nibbed Posca Markers. I finished off the last piece of the left page with a new pattern over the top of some scrap paper and I really liked how it turned out and plan to use it again at a larger scale.
