History of Frankfurt’s Love Lock Bridge 🇩🇪❤️
Frankfurt’s famous Iron Footbridge (Eiserner Steg) is a pedestrian bridge crossing the River Main in Frankfurt, Germany. The original bridge was built in 1868–1869 to connect the city centre with the Sachsenhausen district. It was later reconstructed in 1911–1912 and rebuilt again after being destroyed during World War II.
Today, the bridge is famous for thousands of colourful love locks attached to its railings. Couples write their names or initials on a padlock, attach it to the bridge, and often throw the key into the river as a symbol of everlasting love.
The bridge has become a popular tourist attraction, offering beautiful views of Frankfurt’s skyline, the Main River, and the historic city.
📍 Location: Frankfurt am Main, Germany
