Hey Guys and Welcome! In today’s video, Dr. Guarin is going to discuss about intimate partner violence, how it is affecting our society and how we can get rid of it! ▶️ Visit Our Website: https://www.simplevas.net ▶️Contact: (515) 603-2140 Dr. Guarin is a board-certified physician trained in Maternal, Child, and Reproductive Health. He was originally trained in Colombia at the Universidad de Santander – UDES, graduating at the top of his class. Intimate partner violence is a major public health problem in the United States. It can hurt a person's health, opportunities, and overall well-being for the rest of their life. Violence or abuse between a man and a woman is called "intimate partner violence" (IPV). Intimate partners include both current and former spouses and romantic partners. IPV is just one type of abuse that can be physical, verbal, emotional, financial, or sexual. Any act of physical violence, sexual coercion, mental abuse, or being too controlling in a close relationship hurts the other person physically, mentally, or sexually. It could be anything from a single violent event with long-lasting effects to a series of violent events that keep happening for years. ▶️There are three main types of intimate partner violence: • Physical violence • Emotional violence • Sexual violence Millions of women are affected by intimate partner violence (IPV), no matter their age, income, race, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, or level of education. IPV can cause mental trauma, physical disabilities that last a lifetime, long-term health problems, or even death. IPV can happen to people of all ages, but it is most likely to happen to women. IPV is a major threat to public health. More than 11% of male IPV survivors and 35% of female IPV survivors say they have been hurt physically because of IPV. IPV can also lead to death. According to U.S. crime statistics, about 1 in 5 homicide victims are killed by someone they know well. According to the reports, more than half of all women in the United States are killed by a current or former male intimate partner. IPV has also been linked to a wide range of other health problems. Many illnesses affect the heart, digestive, reproductive, muscular and skeletal, and nervous systems, and many last for a long time. Survivors may have mental health problems like sadness and the signs of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They are more likely to participate in risky sexual behaviors, drink too much, and smoke. We must all get out of this. For that, you need to show your ID. That is, to figure out what's going wrong. Identification is very important if the person and those close to the person want to avoid terrible things that could happen. ▶️ If you think you may be a victim of domestic violence, keep these five things in mind: • You do not deserve that violence. • Understand this is a violent situation, and it needs to be addressed • It would help if you spoke up, as you are not alone. • Do not be concerned about judgment by others. Intimate partner violence is complex, and multiple factors might have led to that. • Do not blame yourself, as that can lead to more abuse and denial.
