මහාචාර්ය එදිරිවීර සරච්චන්ද්‍ර"වෙල්ලවැහුම්"නාටකයWellawahum Folk drama by Prf.Ediriweera Sarachchandra මහාචාර්ය එදිරිවීර සරච්චන්ද්‍ර (1914 ජුනි 3 – 1996 අගෝස්තු 16) ශ්‍රී ලාංකික නාට්‍ය රචකයෙක්, නවකතාකරුවෙක්, කවියෙක්, සාහිත්‍ය විචාරකයෙක්, නිබන්ධකයෙක් සහ සමාජවිවේචකයෙක් ද වන්නේය. ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ප්‍රමුඛ නාට්‍ය රචකයෙක් ලෙස සලකනු ලබන ඔහු අවුරුදු ගණනාවක්ම පේරාදෙණිය විශ්ව විද්‍යා‍ලයේ ජේෂ්ඨ කථිකාචාර්යවරයෙක් ලෙස ද ප්‍රංශයේ ශ්‍රී ලංකා තානාපතිවර‍යා ලෙස ද (1974 – 1977) සේවය කළේය. ඔහුගේ ප්‍රථම නාට්‍යය මනමේ නාටකයයි. මෙය නාඩගම් හෝ ජන නාට්‍ය සම්ප්‍රදායේ සිට නවීන වේදිකා නාට්‍ය ආකෘතිය වෙත මාරු වීම පෙන්නුම් කරන ප්‍රථම සැබෑ සිංහල නාට්‍ය ලෙස සලකනු ලැබේ. ඔහුගේ බොහෝ නාට්‍ය, බෞද්ධ ජාතක කතා හෝ සිංහල ජනශ්‍රැත මුල් කරගෙන නිර්මාණය වූ ඒවාය. මෙය ඔහුගේ නිර්මාණවලට ක්ෂණික හා කල් පවතින ජනප්‍රියත්වයක් ලබා දුනි. Ediriweera Ranjitha Sarachchandra ( 3 June 1914 – 16 August 1996), popularly known as Ediriweera Sarachchandra (Sinhala: එදිරිවීර සරච්චන්ද්‍ර), was a Sri Lankan playwright, novelist, poet, literary critic, essayist and social commentator.[1] Considered as the premier playwright in Sri Lanka, Sarachchandra produced several critically acclaimed theatre plays in a career spanning more than four decades.[2] He also served as a senior lecturer at the University of Peradeniya for many years and as Sri Lankan Ambassador to France from 1974 to 1977.
