A fisherwoman hauls up her net on a foggy North Sea morning — and finds a sealed sea chest. It is heavy, barnacled, locked with rusted iron bands. And from inside the wood comes a quiet movement. Something in there is alive — and listening. Mareike has fished these waters for thirty years. But nothing in those years prepared her for what she must decide before the storm comes. Settle in for a slow, clear German story, told in the first person — and press play. 🎧 WHAT YOU WILL LEARN This listening story trains real, everyday German at A2–B1 level: sea and weather words, giving a report on the radio, saying no politely but firmly, and the small phrases Germans use when something truly matters. You will hear natural sentence rhythm, clear pronunciation, and useful vocabulary repeated in context — the way you actually remember it. 📖 ABOUT THIS STORY Mareike Janssen has fished out of Büsum for over thirty years. She knows wind, water, and the gulls above her. Then one foggy morning her net brings up something heavy: a sealed sea chest, covered in barnacles. When she knocks on the wood, something knocks back. The harbour master calls it salvage. A firm's ship arrives at six in the morning. And inside the chest, the movement stops. A quiet mystery about the sea, a promise, and a search that must not end too early. 💡 HOW TO USE THIS VIDEO 1. First listen: just follow the story. Do not stop for single words. 2. Second listen: turn on the German subtitles (included as a subtitle file) and read along with the voice. 3. Shadow the short sentences out loud — many lines are perfect for speaking practice. 4. Write down five new words and make one sentence with each. 5. Listen once more without subtitles and notice how much more you understand. ⏱️ CHAPTERS (timestamps to be set after full build) Nebel am Morgen Das schwere Netz Die Kiste kommt hoch Das Klopfen Das Handwerk der Kiste Das gerissene Netz Büsum am Abend Beim Hafenmeister Der Mann der Firma Das Schild unter den Ranken Die Position Der Funkspruch Die Stille im Holz Nacht an Bord Der Sturm Die verkeilte Kiste Hannes Morgenfahrt Die Menschen am Kai Das Öffnen Pelle, die Glocke, die Decke Tage später: Die Leine Neue Routine 👥 WHO IS THIS FOR? • German learners at A2–B1 who want real listening practice • Learners who are bored of textbook dialogues and want a real story • Anyone preparing for Goethe / telc listening at A2 or B1 • German teachers looking for slow, clear listening material ✏️ STUDY TIPS Pause after each scene and say in one German sentence what just happened. The narrator repeats the important phrases naturally, so listen for the words that come back — they are the ones worth learning. If a scene feels fast, use 0.75x speed; the voice stays clear. 🎯 LISTENING CHALLENGE Listen until the end and answer in the comments — in German if you can: 1. Was findet Mareike in ihrem Netz? (What does Mareike find in her net?) 2. Was antwortet aus der Kiste, als sie klopft? (What answers from inside the chest when she knocks?) 3. Was glaubst du: Warum will Mareike die Kiste nicht abgeben? (What do you think: why won't Mareike hand over the chest?) No spoilers in the comments, please — let everyone discover the ending themselves. 📚 MORE GERMAN STORIES New German listening story every day on this channel.
