Round 6 of the 1966 World Sportscar Championship takes us to the Ardennes once again, this time, though, to an iconic track for all the wrong reasons: the Nürburgring. The legendary Nordschleife needs little introduction. Almost 23 kilometres of narrow, undulating tarmac, lined with unforgiving barriers, trees and countless blind corners, it was a circuit where even the smallest mistake could have enormous consequences. And in 1966, the Nürburgring was about as daunting as it had ever been. The 1000-kilometre race would see the world's finest sports cars thrown into battle around the Green Hell, with Ferrari arriving as one of the favourites. The Maranello squad had the outright speed, but waiting for them was the innovative Chaparral 2D, along with Porsche's increasingly formidable 906s. Can we keep up the momentum and hold off our competitors to keep the lead in the championship with three races remaining? About the Series Our 1966 Season Championship recreates the world of motorsport in the swinging sixties, taking on historic circuits, legendary cars and some of the greatest challenges in sports car racing — including the cars and drivers who never got their chance to compete back then.
