Today as it Happened on Friday, October 9, 2026: Hurricane Isaias arrived on land Friday evening around 8:35 Central Time, lashing parts of Florida, Alabama and Mississippi with heavy rains and and winds up to 105mph. The storm came ashore in Florida's western Panhandle region, near Destin. As the eye of the storm arrived over land, a Hurricane Warning remained in effect between Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and the Bay/Gulf County Line in Florida. The attorney representing Jane Doe, the woman at the center of the Cornell University sexual assault lawsuit known as the Cornell Seven case, says his client is living in fear after a threatening phone call and a swatting incident brought heavily armed police to her home. In an interview with Scripps News, Doe’s attorney, Thomas Giuffra, said his client's family was threatened and that police responded after someone falsely reported a violent emergency at the residence. Doe’s father, brother and a friend were outside as officers arrived with weapons drawn, according to her attorney. And President Donald Trump said he has struck a deal to obtain diesel from Russia, a stunning reversal of years of U.S. pressure on Moscow over its war with Ukraine and an attempt to address high fuel prices ahead of the U.S. midterm elections. Trump said on social media on Friday that he struck the deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone call in which he was expected to discuss a suspected case of plague in Russia. Instead, Trump announced that Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by an additional 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons “immediately thereafter.” Russia will deliver an additional 3 million tons “within a short period of time” after that, he wrote. Trump’s shocking announcement comes after he signed a sweeping Russia sanctions law last month that aimed at clamping down on Russia’s energy revenues, among other areas, that fuel its war against Ukraine. ------------------------------------- Follow Scripps News on other platforms— Join our newsletter at https://bit.ly/2q1tepr Follow us on Facebook:   / scrippsnews   Follow us on X: https://x.com/scrippsnews Follow us on Instagram:   / scrippsnews   Follow us on TikTok:   / scrippsnews
