Change The Shape of Your Canoe With Thwart Replacement

Have you ever wished your canoe had a slightly different shape? Maybe a little narrower,slightly more tumblehome. Would it make it easier to paddle with a kayak paddle, help with oil canning… would it be any faster or ruin the canoe completely? When it came time to replace the thwarts on my first solo canoe, I decided to experiment and see what changes I could achieve on the bottom of the hull if the thwarts were shortened and the gunnels brought closer together.
