Date filmed: Saturday the 31st of January 2026 Route: London, Tilbury & Southend Railway (Tilbury Loop) Between Stanford-le-Hope (SFO) and Pitsea (PSE) Stations Crossing type: Manually Controlled Barrier crossing Occupier-Controlled (MCB-OC) Filming location: Gardners, Basildon (SS16 4QG) Featuring: ‪@ElectraLevelCrossings‬ An unusual level crossing here, also beside the A13. This level crossing is one of only a small handful dotted around to be operated only on-request; users must push a classic 'wait' push button unit to notify the crossing keeper at Upminster they wish to cross, and provided there are no approaching trains, the barriers will be raised after a short while. It seems like there is no fixed automatic timer or pattern as to when the barriers will be lowered again, but most likely when a train starts to approach is when they will. When the barriers lower, the lights and alarms will activate as usual, but the lights will switch off when both barriers are down. There are alarms here, but they are even more inaudible than the nearby crossing's.
