But what is Bran Castle really like? Is it actually connected to Dracula? What is inside the castle? What does the castle look like from the inside? And most importantly… is Bran Castle really worth visiting? Come along with us as we explore the castle room by room, walk through its narrow passageways, staircases and historic spaces, and take in the beautiful mountain scenery surrounding Bran. 🏰 A LITTLE HISTORY Bran Castle has a fascinating history that goes far beyond the Dracula legend. The area around Bran has been an important mountain passage between Transylvania and Wallachia for centuries. A major stone fortress was authorized in 1377, primarily for strategic defense and to control trade passing through the Bran Pass. Over the centuries, the castle served different purposes, including a defensive fortress, customs point and later a royal residence. In 1920, Bran Castle was given to Queen Marie of Romania, who transformed and restored it into one of her favorite residences. Her connection to the castle is an important part of its real history and is something we discover during our visit. And then there is the story that made Bran famous around the world Dracula. Although Bran Castle is popularly called Dracula’s Castle, the Dracula we know from Bram Stoker's novel is a fictional character, and Bran Castle was not the actual home of Dracula. The castle's association with Dracula grew because of similarities between Stoker's description of Dracula's fictional castle and Bran's dramatic location in Transylvania. Bram Stoker himself never visited Romania. 👀 WHAT DID WE FIND INSIDE?
