Julia Beck: Heterosexuality - a Lesbian Feminist Approach

Sexuality is not just about who you love. For women, and especially for lesbians, it’s political! If we look through a feminist lens at the social construction of sexuality, we start asking questions like: “Is sexuality socially constructed?”, What is a heterosexual woman?” and “To what degree can separatism be a solution?” Come for an evening of analysis and discussion inspired by the essay Compulsory Heterosexuality and Lesbian Existence by Adrienne Rich (1980). Julia Beck is a radical-lesbian-feminist from the United States. She has been actively involved in feminism, lesbianism, and politics in general for around 10 years. In the US, she wrote articles, organized protests and women-only gatherings, worked on a feminist podcast for 5 years, and she even led a government committee for a short time. She has spoken before many different audiences, for example before the United States Congress in 2019. After moving to Berlin in 2020, she became active with feminist politics in Germany. On the topic of Compulsory Heterosexuailty, she has given presentations and led discussions with other women every year since 2022.
