GTA 6 rebuilt police work so that getting away is a question of what they have on you rather than how far you drive, and the red icons under your wanted stars are a case file being built in real time. IGN confirmed a crime now has to be witnessed or trip an alarm before it gets reported at all, so hitting someone on an empty street at three in the morning produces no report and no case. Six separate lines of evidence display live, where GTA 5 gave you a number of stars and nothing else.
You will learn what each icon in the case file means, since a silhouette is a physical description, a clothes hanger is what you are wearing, a camera means CCTV footage exists, and there are separate icons for your vehicle, the weapons you were seen holding and who you are with because the game registers that Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are traveling together, why the file does not close when the chase ends, because there are now three star states where solid white means they can see you, flashing white means you broke line of sight, and red is new and means the pursuit is over while they still know exactly who they are looking for, with an inner zone covering where the call came in and a wider outer zone, and how every icon comes off separately, since ditching the car clears the vehicle, changing out of the clothes you committed the crime in clears the clothing, and dropping the weapon you were seen with clears that. The video covers the IGN demo moment where Jason bought a baseball cap that removed the description icon while the clothing icon stayed lit because he was still in the same clothes, expensive stolen cars carrying GPS trackers that transmit your position with some requiring you to keep moving at speed, six stars returning for the first time since Chinatown Wars with a statewide response and regional heat lifted from Red Dead Redemption 2's bounty system, the criminal profile tracking your pattern over time until it cracks, hollow stars appearing when police have no idea who did it so Lucia rides past responding officers after a bank robbery and nothing happens, aiming a weapon without firing so the crime is not reported as violent, the busted screen leaving one character running while the other is arrested, and a clear split between what came from Rockstar's own demo and what is IGN's reporting.
