✨ JAFFNA DIARIES | DAY 03 🌴 Welcome to Day 03 of my Jaffna journey💛 Today was another special day exploring the history, culture and heritage of northern Sri Lanka. We visited three very different but fascinating places, each with its own story. 📍 Nagadeepa / Nainativu Island 🙏 We started our journey by taking a boat from Kurikadduwan Jetty to Nainativu Island and visited the sacred Nagadeepa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya, one of Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites. We also learned about the history and traditions connected to the Buddha’s second visit to Sri Lanka. 📍 Nagapooshani Amman Kovil 🛕 Next, we visited the beautiful Nagapooshani Amman Temple, located on the same island. The temple is known for its impressive gopurams, colourful architecture, religious significance and fascinating legends. It was amazing to see two important religious heritage sites within the same island. 📍 General Denzil Kobbekaduwa Memorial – Araly Point 🕊️ Our final stop was the Denzil Kobbekaduwa Memorial at Araly Point. This historic site remembers Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa and the other military personnel who lost their lives here in 1992. The memorial and museum preserve photographs, historical information and items connected to that tragic event.
