A League of Their Own is a perfect movie and a legal catastrophe. We break down whether Marla Hooch could sue for being cut over her looks, why charm school would never survive today, and what the real 1943 contracts actually required. We get into the femininity mandate that league founder Philip Wrigley really imposed (lipstick at all times, no short haircuts, chaperones approving your dates), the fines for drinking, smoking, or missing curfew, and what the players were actually paid. We argue over whether "fugly" is a protected class, run the Marlon test to see if the league would ever cut a man for his face, and land on a verdict for Marla that is not a slam dunk. Then it gets messier. The uniforms that guaranteed injuries. The fans whistling from the stands with nobody stepping in. Whether that is meaningfully different from Hooters. Dottie walking out mid World Series and what the league could actually recover. Trading Kit without her consent. Poisoning the chaperone. And Jimmy Dugan, who starts as a walking HR nightmare and somehow ends up the least problematic person in the movie. We close on the part the film only touches for a moment: Black women were barred from the league entirely, four years before Jackie Robinson, and the league folded in 1954 before most of them ever got a shot.
