These Four American Came To Canada With Disrespect. Canadians Are Done With This

Four Americans apparently travelled to Halifax wearing matching “Lake America” sweatshirts, and Canadians are not impressed. And for me, this isn't really about what somebody wants to call a lake. It's about respect. If you're going to come into Canada, enjoy our country, attend your conference, spend time here and benefit from Canadian hospitality, maybe don't joke beforehand about something you already know Canadians find insulting. Their own social media post even appeared to acknowledge that Canada probably wasn't going to appreciate it. That's the part that pisses me off. Canada isn't a punchline, and Canadians don't have to quietly accept disrespect just because somebody wants to call it a joke. In this video I talk about the four Americans behind the viral Lake America photo, the reaction from Canadians, the growing frustration with American political rhetoric towards Canada, and why Canadians need to be willing to stand up for our country when that line gets crossed. This is also happening during a much bigger shift in the Canada US relationship. The US Canada Trade War, declining cross border Travel, the US Tourism Decline and changing tourism patterns are all connected to something much bigger than economics. Trust matters. Respect matters. And Canadians are paying attention.
