Narration: Sandhya (28), holding a bucket: "Oh God! On one hand, this endless rain, and on the other, the shortage of water at home. I wonder when our days will finally change..."
Sonu (6) (running and accidentally bumping into his mother): "Oh Mom, sorry! The water spilled because of me..."
Sandhya (28) (angrily): "Sonu! Can't you see where you're going? It's already raining outside, and now you've spilled water inside too. The whole floor has turned muddy. It won't dry anytime soon..."
Sonu (6) (crying): "Sorry, Mom..."
Sulochana (50) (angrily): "Daughter-in-law, why are you scolding Sonu? It's not the child's fault."
Sandhya (28) (tired and frustrated): "If that's the case, then tell the men of the house to fetch water too. I've been running around with buckets since morning. On top of that, this mud house... the moment it rains, the whole house turns into a swamp. How long are we supposed to live like this?"
Sulochana (50) (firmly): "Daughter-in-law... there's a proper way to speak. Who knows the condition of this house better than us?"
Sandhya (28) (painfully): "Mother, I'm not trying to argue. I'm only saying that every year it's the same story. As soon as the rainy season starts, living in this house becomes impossible."
Narration: Just then, a loud clap of thunder echoes outside. The rain becomes even heavier as strong winds blow. Water starts rushing into the house through the gap beneath the door.
Kavya (22) (panicking): "Sister-in-law! I'm closing the windows, but so much water is coming in through the door!"
Sandhya (28) (running): "Kavya, you handle the windows. I'll block the door with sacks!"
Narration: Both of them try their best, but the water keeps pouring in. Within minutes, the entire floor is covered with wet mud and slush.
Grandmother Kusum (75) (helplessly): "Oh Lord... the same misery every monsoon. There's not even a place left to step."
Narration: Somehow, Sandhya tries to save the soaked mud stove. The firewood is completely wet, causing thick smoke to fill the room.
Sonu (6) (coughing): "Mom... my eyes are burning..."
Pinku (4) (crying): "I don't like this smoke..."
Sandhya (28) (holding back tears): "What can I do, my child? It's raining so heavily outside that I can't light the stove outdoors. We have no other choice."
Narration: Night falls. Mud covers the entire room, leaving no place to sit.
Ramesh (52) (softly): "Everyone, hold your plates and eat while standing. If you sit on the floor, your clothes will get ruined."
Chirag (30) (sadly): "Today has truly been terrible."
Grandmother Kusum (75) (emotionally): "At this age, I'm forced to eat standing. May God never show such days to anyone."
Narration: The entire family silently finishes dinner while standing. After a while, everyone sits together when Sandhya finally speaks.
Sandhya (28) (with a trembling voice): "Look... people have solid concrete houses. Even if it rains, they hardly notice. But look at us... our entire house has turned into mud. If we also had a proper house, Grandma wouldn't have to suffer like this."
Chirag (30) (gently): "Why are you so upset, dear?"
Sandhya (28) (emotionally): "I'm not angry... I'm hurt. Didn't you see? The whole family had to eat standing today. Did you see Grandma's condition? Every year we face the same suffering."
Grandmother Kusum (75) (with teary eyes): "She's right. Every monsoon feels like life comes to a standstill."
Sandhya (28) (worried): "There are so many expenses... Neeraj's career, Kavya's education... and we barely have any money. How will everything ever work out?"
Narration: Outside, the river water continues rising rapidly. News of flooding spreads everywhere.
Ramesh (52) (worried): "The last flood brought us so much misery. This time the rain doesn't seem to stop at all. I don't know what will happen now."
Narration: Just then, Kamla Devi stands on the terrace of her one-story marble house across the street, watching their misery.
Kamla Devi (48) (mockingly): "Well, well... your house has turned into a muddy pond. Just look at ours—shining marble everywhere. And your house... still made of mud! Couldn't you even earn enough to build a proper home?"
