Forte Pramand, Torino, Piedmont, Italy - by motorcycle and drone

Forte Pramand, situated on Monte Pramand at an altitude of 2,162 metres, is a mountain fortress that was completed in 1905. After the Second World War, the fortress was blown up and rendered unusable. The fort lies above the village of Salbertrand on the northern side of the Susa Valley and offers excellent views across the valley. It forms part of a group of forts (e.g. Fenil, Föens, Bramafan and Jafferau) that made up part of the Alpine Wall. All the forts are connected by a network of military roads. To the east of Salbertrand, a small road branches off northwards towards Moncellier / Eclause. Initially, the road is still tarmac; at Moncellier, the gravel road begins, though it is very well maintained. This is where the old military road No. 79 begins, leading after a good 10 km to a large, flat clearing. The route continues straight ahead through the Galleria dei Sarazeni tunnel to Forte Föens or Forte Jafferau. From this clearing, the remaining ascent to Forte Pramand branches off sharply to the left/west. The second half of this approximately 1.3 km long ascent is, however, very steep and severely damaged by landslides and erosion. The military road network, which includes the approach to Forte Pramand, is only open to public traffic from 1 June to 30 September. Motorised traffic is permitted only on Wednesdays and Saturdays. At other times, the road network is reserved for walkers and cyclists.
