Tim Mahon said, “We live in interesting times, it’s important to stand somewhere”. In true fashion right now with this topical song 'Vote', and continuing on with his legacy as bass player in Blam Blam Blam, the band who are legends for their political songs (There is No Depression in New Zealand etc.). Tims new band Kerfuffle still reveals in 'Vote' powerful political post punk music with attitude. Or is it pop-rock? It's the lyrics that count! Launching straight into "Vote," the song begins with: “Democracy is the most inefficient way to run a country, but it’s still better than anything else” plus lyrics from the song: “Vote, vote, you’ve got to vote. I don’t mind the colour of your coat, you can vote for a goat, just vote. People have died to give you the right, how can you ignore such a sacrifice? If you were a useful citizen you will be considering and holding our leaders to accountability, that’s what we call democracy.” The Kerfuffle live four-piece band being Tim Mahon (bass, guitar, vocals), Teina Benioni (guitar) from the album recording, plus Roger Stanners (guitar) and Alastair Mace (drums). On The Great Kerfuffle album, Tim Mahon recorded with, Teina Benioni (Bamboo/Ardijah) who plays live lead guitar here, Sina Saipaia (O.M.C), Brent ‘Syd’ Pasley (Newmatics) and Mark Bell (Blam Blam Blam). 'Vote' was released on 11-05-26, as the first single from Tim Mahon on his new album 'The Great Kerfufflle'. I caught up with him during their 3 New Zealand Islands ten date album launch tour. I captured footage and posted the link at the end here of Tims new band covering his former band (Blam Blam Blam) songs 'Don't Fight It Marsha It's Bigger than Both of Us' + 'There is No Depression in New Zealand.' This was at The Crown Hotel in Dunedin on 21 October, then this footage was at The Penguin Club in Oamaru on 24 October. In-between nights, the band squeezed in two gigs in significant locations, Invercargill and Stewart Island, no less. The band in their packed van isn't an easy commute on the Foveaux Strait ferry to Stewart Island, then on the road up to Oamaru for this gig, then onto Lyttelton for their next night. No roadie for rock royalty required! I was motivated knowing how important and fun it was to capture Tim Mahons new fresh music with his talented new band. Yes, some nostalgia with old favs, and I will share more from his two gigs. So many great music legends often reform their old bands to play their vintage same old hits. But not Tim Mahon with his new music. Oh so relevant to our shared "interesting times." The 10-track Digital Album is available on Bandcamp plus released on Vinyl LP.
