Then, in just six months, his three businesses billed the state’s Medicaid program $36.5 million, for X-rays, scans and treatments that prosecutors say never happened. One patient was billed for more than 1,700 X-rays in six months. Another found out her file said she was in a wheelchair she had never used. Investigators seized private jets, stacks of cash and gold bars. He was held on a $50 million cash-only bond, pleaded guilty to four felonies, and was ordered to repay $36,542,901. But the sentence the judge handed down was not the number in the first plea filing.
