Scammer Fails Trying To Buy $11,500 Rolex With Fake ID

The ID looked wrong. Then it wouldn’t scan. And the purchase on the counter was an $11,500 Rolex. A Boca Raton pawn shop contacted police after a customer attempted to purchase a Rolex Submariner using identification and a credit card bearing the same name. Employees became suspicious during the identity-verification process and declined the transaction. The customer left the store while the ID and card remained behind, then entered a nearby CVS. Officers detained a man matching the description, conducted a witness identification, continued investigating the documents left at the pawn shop, and eventually used a fingerprint scanner to verify his identity. He was arrested for forgery and use of identification. Booking charges were filed but the final court disposition had not been publicly confirmed at the time of publication.
