Flash... BOOM! A stormy page in the Scrapbook makes Pip jump, and she wants to know: where does thunder come from? Pip, Snip and Old Tuk turn the page and step right next to a giant storm cloud. Snip cuts the cloud open and finds ice bouncing around like popcorn, Pip rubs a balloon on her fur until it stands straight up, and a giant thermometer shows that lightning is even hotter than the Sun! Then the crew learns a clever trick to tell how far away a storm is, the safety rule every kid should know, and why Thursday is named after the Vikings' thunder god. Then the whole crew sings "Rainy Day Swing"! In this episode kids learn: • inside a storm cloud, bits of ice and tiny hail bump into each other and build up electricity • lightning is a giant spark, like the tiny zap from a balloon or a doorknob, but huge • lightning heats the air to about 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit, hotter than the surface of the Sun • the super hot air pushes out all at once, and that BOOM is thunder • close thunder goes CRACK, far-away thunder goes rumble • light is faster than sound, so we see the flash first • count the seconds after the flash: every 5 seconds is about 1 mile • when thunder roars, go indoors! • lightning flashes about 40 times every second around the world • Thursday means "Thor's day", named after the Vikings' god of thunder Chapters 0:00 Flash...
