Now, the rotting piers and needle-strewn alleys have been completely steamrolled by sterile boutiques, trust-fund kids, and luxury glass condos. For this final, bittersweet lap, I went back to the neighborhood that made me, dragging legends like Debbie Harry, Jim Jarmusch, and Fab 5 Freddy out to eulogize a New York that is effectively dead and buried.
