What in the Mechatronics?! 🤖👁️
Byte is officially getting his first physical sense: VISION.
In Byte Build Log 004, I’m continuing my journey of building my first humanoid robot from the ground up while learning robotics and mechatronics along the way.
This build started with unboxing Byte’s new parts and tools before setting up his Raspberry Pi 4. I installed the operating system onto his microSD card, got the Pi booted, connected his Camera Module 3, verified that the camera was detected, captured Byte’s first photo, and confirmed that the image file was successfully created. 📸
This was also my first hands-on experience working in a Debian/Linux environment, so there was plenty of researching, troubleshooting, waiting, and figuring things out as I went. 😭😂
After filming, I kept experimenting and successfully controlled Byte’s camera using a small Python/Picamera2 test program. 🐍👀 That part happened off-camera, but we’ll be doing much more Python and hardware integration as Byte develops.
I’m new to mechatronics, robotics, and mechanics, and that’s exactly why I’m documenting this. I’m not documenting perfection—I’m documenting the process of learning, troubleshooting, building, and bringing Byte the Binary Bot to life.
Next: more Python, microphone testing, and preparing Byte’s physical head. 🎙️🐍🤖
Identity. Resilience. Reclamation of Power.
