DUOTONE by Andrzej Bauer | 1st Attempt | Performed by Jiho Eun | 07.18.2026

This video captures my first attempt at performing DUOTONE by Andrzej Bauer on July 18, 2026. DUOTONE is a highly expressive and experimental solo cello work that explores contrasting sound worlds through extended techniques, sharp rhythmic gestures, and sudden shifts in timbre. The piece challenges the performer to create a layered musical texture from a single instrument, moving between percussive, lyrical, fragmented, and atmospheric sounds. Through this first attempt, I focused on understanding the piece’s contrasts: its tension between control and freedom, noise and tone, structure and spontaneity. Performing DUOTONE was an important step in exploring a more contemporary and physically expressive side of cello performance.
