Bhante Gunaratana answers retreatants questions on the third evening of a retreat in April 2015 on the Noble Eightfold Path at the Bhavana Society Therevadan Forest Monastery in High View, W.Va.. He answers a variety of questions, such as: What is wholesome desire? Why do we see nimitas? Is it possible to forgive the wrongdoer but not to forgive the deed? What is the Buddha’s definition of wisdom in Pali and English? Mindfulness mediation practice is being taught in schools and elsewhere and is cut off from Buddhist practice for obvious reason — can you comment on this? Did the Buddha have anything to say about the origin of the universe? Can you please discuss some practical tips or methods for dealing with greed-based thoughts and actions in secular life? Are Buddhist nuns treated equally in the Therevadan traditions? Are monks allowed to engage in physical activities in order to maintain their health and support their spiritual training? How can I not have doubt when I see many monastics who are not liberated and yet put in much more effort than lay ones such as myself?
