He tells about a man who came home from a trip loaded with bags, and his own children ran straight past him to grab the bags, because it was the things they loved, not him. Then he turns to Matthew 27: Judas felt so bad about betraying Jesus that he threw back the thirty pieces of silver and confessed, I have sinned, I have betrayed innocent blood, and still went and hanged himself. He compares that to the prodigal son in Luke 15, who also said I have sinned, but actually got up and went home to his father. The difference was never the apology, it was the change. Feeling sorry, crying in church, admitting you're wrong means nothing if nothing in your life actually turns around.
