HS2 West Midlands | The Good News… and the Bad News

HS2 construction across the West Midlands is moving forward fast — but while some major structures are now nearing completion, there is still plenty of work to do. In this September 2026 update, I take a drone journey across some of the most impressive HS2 construction sites in the West Midlands, looking at both the GOOD NEWS and the BAD NEWS along the way. We start at the huge M6 Motorway Viaducts before heading south to the River Blythe Viaduct, which is looking remarkably close to completion. At Kenilworth Road, work around the Marsh Farm Viaduct and Sixteen Acre Wood embankment is well underway, although road users are still dealing with the disruption created by this enormous construction project. We then visit the Lavender Hall Lane Overbridge and embankment before continuing to Balsall Common, where the impressive viaduct is taking shape across the Warwickshire countryside. And this time, there's something a little different: as well as the aerial views, I've captured some rarely seen ground-level footage of the Balsall Common Viaduct from a nearby public park, giving a completely different perspective on the scale of the structure. Finally, we take another look at the HS2 Delta Junction, where the gap over the M42 is getting ever smaller and where they install parapets during the A460 Lichfield Road closure.
