Your AI receptionist sends the text. n8n gets a success response. And the message never arrives — the carrier filtered it, and nothing in your stack will tell you.
This is the Twilio A2P 10DLC setup the tutorials skip, done on one of my own company accounts: the four registrations between a trial account and a number US carriers will actually deliver from, what each one costs, and the fields that get campaigns rejected.
💵 WHAT IT ACTUALLY COST
$20 minimum top-up to upgrade off the trial (before we start a campaign)
$4.50 brand registration (Low-Volume Standard, vs $46 Standard)
$15 campaign vetting fee, charged even if you're rejected
$1.50/month for the campaign, plus small per-message carrier fees.
⏳ HOW LONG IT TOOK
Hours, first try: filed 23:00 UTC, approved 00:37. Twilio's own estimates that same day: 1–3 business days, 10–15 days, and 2–3 weeks. Don't quote a client hours. Quote two weeks and file on day one.
📋 WHAT'S COVERED
Why a trial account only texts you, and why upgrading alone doesn't fix it
10DLC vs short code vs toll-free, A2P vs P2P, and how segments are billed
Direct customer vs reseller, and why every client needs their own account
The campaign form: description, sample messages, consent, opt-in keywords
Why a number bought inside Retell can't join your campaign, and BYOC
