However, while scrolling through YouTube Shorts, I happened to see a clip of James Cagney playing George M. Cohan (the composer of "Over There") tap-dancing down the White House stairs in the movie Yankee Doodle Dandy. The song playing in that scene was "The Yankee Doodle Boy." In Japan, the original "Yankee Doodle" melody is widely famous as the nursery rhyme "Alps Ichi-man Jaku," but I've always loved the original song as well. Finding out that the composer of a song I loved had performed and covered another song I knew felt like a little twist of fate! That's why I decided to put "Yankee Doodle" in the interlude, and saved "Over There" for the finale to keep the lyrical flow seamless. It tells a story: pushing the caisson, crossing trenches, firing field guns, and before you know it, crossing the ocean to finally reach the distant battlefield!
