The Toffees against the Red Devils. Moyes against his former club. Jack Grealish back in blue, Bruno Fernandes arriving after a stunning hat-trick and two teams determined to make a statement before the first international break. Everton have taken four points from their opening two league matches. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry scored in an impressive 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace before James Tarkowski's stoppage-time strike rescued a 1-1 draw away at Bournemouth. Barry has already scored four times in all competitions after adding a Carabao Cup hat-trick against Preston. The young striker has quickly become central to Everton's attack, and his importance has only increased following a turbulent deadline day. Iliman Ndiaye completed a major move to Manchester City, Beto also departed and a proposed deal for Folarin Balogun collapsed following concerns during his medical. Moyes has admitted he was left with a very small squad, placing greater responsibility on Barry and Everton's emerging young players. There was still one arrival guaranteed to lift the mood. Grealish has returned to Everton on another season-long loan after his first spell was cut short by a foot injury. He contributed two goals and six assists in 22 appearances last season and was named the Premier League's Player of the Month for August before injury interrupted his campaign. Now fit again, Grealish could make his second Everton debut against Manchester United. Alongside Dewsbury-Hall, Tyler Dibling and Tyrique George, he gives Moyes some much-needed creativity behind Barry. Ainsley Maitland-Niles also arrived on deadline day and could make his first appearance, while Jordan Pickford, Jarrad Branthwaite and Tarkowski will be responsible for containing a United attack that exploded into life last weekend. Manchester United's season began with a humiliating 2-0 defeat at newly promoted Hull City. Both goals came from set pieces and Carrick's side were deservedly criticised after failing to match Hull's intensity. Their response was emphatic. United came from behind to beat Ipswich Town 5-2 at Old Trafford, producing 33 shots and scoring four times during a devastating second-half display. Fernandes was the difference. The captain scored a brilliant hat-trick, while Bryan Mbeumo added the fifth and Marcus Rashford made his first Premier League start for United since December 2024. Carrick will now demand consistency. Matheus Cunha and Mbeumo can stretch Everton's defence, Rashford has an opportunity to rebuild his United career and Fernandes arrives as the most influential player on the pitch. United's midfield rebuild remains incomplete on the field. Carlos Baleba joined from Brighton in a major summer deal but is still recovering from an ankle injury and must wait for his debut. Manuel Ugarte and Amad Diallo are also unavailable, while other late fitness decisions could test Carrick's squad depth. There is pressure on both managers for very different reasons. Moyes has guided Everton through an unbeaten start but must prove his thin squad can survive the loss of key attackers. Carrick needs to show the Ipswich performance represented real progress rather than one spectacular afternoon at Old Trafford.
