I landed my best fluke of the season at Rye Beach! Watch as I battle changing winds and shift gears to land a quality 23-inch keeper fluke while fishing the western Long Island Sound from the Salty Slayer (my Native Slayer Propel Max 12.5 fishing kayak).
Overall, this late-summer afternoon kayak fishing trip was a success! I landed a 17.5-inch short, a 19-inch "barely" short (NY minimum is 19.5 inches as of August 2nd), and that impressive 23-inch keeper--plus a surprise short black sea bass.
Jigging split-tail and paddle-tail soft plastic lures while drifting over structure near Rye Beach Buoy 38 proved to be the winning strategy and best lure selection.
Fish or no fish, this channel keeps it real!
