In this episode of The Real Picture by Harish, we examine the growing controversy over alleged Chinese incursions and reported confrontations between Indian and Chinese troops in Arunachal Pradesh. The debate has gained renewed attention following a statement attributed to Shatrujeet Kapoor, Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), referring to clashes with Chinese soldiers at several locations in Arunachal Pradesh and suggesting that the situation remains ongoing. His reported remarks raise important questions about earlier claims made by local residents, tribal organisations and political representatives, and the government's response to those concerns.
For months, residents and local organisations in Arunachal Pradesh have alleged that Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) personnel have gradually moved into areas traditionally used by indigenous communities for grazing, hunting and other activities. In a memorandum submitted on June 26, 2026, the Nah Welfare Society reportedly raised concerns about alleged Chinese expansion in Upper Subansiri district, including claims of roads, bridges and military camps being established in areas used by local communities. The organisation called for an investigation and measures to protect India's territorial integrity and the traditional land rights of indigenous people.
The controversy intensified after Arunachal Pradesh content creator Taba Nagu posted an emotional video expressing fears about the future of his state. Reports said he was threatened with an FIR, following which the video was deleted. Meanwhile, a fact-finding committee associated with the People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) reportedly visited border villages, spoke with residents and interacted with defence personnel. Its findings raised concerns about alleged restrictions on Indian patrols in areas such as Shera 5 Point and changes in access to traditional community lands near Nanga Pahar.
The episode also examines the Indian Army's initial rejection of reports of Chinese incursions, statements by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and other officials, and the controversy surrounding viral videos examined by the Press Information Bureau's fact-checking unit. We revisit earlier border-related controversies, including statements made by Arunachal Pradesh BJP MP Tapir Gao in 2019 and the India-China clash in the Yangtse area of Tawang in December 2022.
The central question is one of transparency and accountability: What exactly is happening along the Arunachal Pradesh frontier? How should allegations from local communities be investigated? And what information should the government share with citizens when concerns involve India's territorial integrity and national security?
Watch this episode of The Real Picture for an in-depth examination of the available reports, official responses and unanswered questions surrounding the Arunachal Pradesh border controversy. The allegations discussed in this report require independent verification, and distinguishing confirmed information from claims remains essential in a matter of national importance.
