The Ashen Wanderer | The Book of Unquiet Things | Record 0001 Somewhere upon the roads of the Umbral Reach, there walks a warrior whom no one can explain. He wears blackened, battle-scarred armor. A sword far too large for any ordinary warrior drags behind him, leaving scorched earth in its wake. He never speaks. He never attacks. He simply walks. For generations, travelers have reported seeing him. But no one knows who he is. Some say he is alive, condemned to wander until he finds what he seeks. Others say he died long ago, yet somehow remains bound to the world of the living. Some believe he searches for a fallen companion. Others believe he seeks the battlefield where he died. There are even those who believe he no longer remembers what he is searching for. The people of the Umbral Reach do not curse him. They do not hunt him. When his footsteps appear upon the road, they simply step aside and let him pass. For they understand something that many others do not: Perhaps the greatest tragedy is not death. Perhaps it is being unable to find one's way beyond it.
