Swiss in the Age of Blades

A song about Swiss mercenaries. Did you know? Swiss mercenaries (Reisläufer) were among the most feared and disciplined infantry forces of the Late Middle Ages. They revolutionized medieval warfare by shifting the balance of power from armored, aristocratic cavalry back to foot soldiers. The Swiss were so effective that the Vatican hired Swiss mercenaries to protect the Pope in 1506. Today, the modern Pontifical Swiss Guard still carries the traditional Swiss halberd for ceremonial duties.
