Kuta, Bali. Wednesday, 8 April 2026. This afternoon we’re back in Kuta to take a look at the current situation around this legendary tourism area. The weather today is bright with a few clouds — perfect for a walk around the streets of Kuta. We started our walk at the Ground Zero Monument, a memorial that stands as a reminder of the tragic humanitarian event that took place here in the past. From there, we made our way into a small lane called Poppies Lane 2. Back in the 80s and 90s, this street was well known for its nightlife and the free-spirited youth culture of the time. Today, it’s still fairly busy with passing vehicles, and we saw a handful of tourists walking through the lane. Next, we entered Beachwalk Mall through the rear entrance. The mall is consistently busy, and it’s clear that many visitors now prefer spending time here compared to other parts of Kuta. We then headed to the front of the mall and crossed over to Kuta Beach. The beach isn’t as crowded as it once was during its peak years. At the moment, the condition of Kuta Beach is quite concerning, with ongoing coastal erosion leaving parts of the shoreline in disarray. It’s an issue that likely requires serious attention and conservation efforts. After that, we left the beach and walked along Pantai Kuta Street, the road that connects Legian Main Street and Bakungsari Street to the beachfront. This road is usually busy with traffic, especially as sunset approaches. We continued east along Pantai Kuta Street until we reached an intersection, then turned left onto Legian Main Street. From there, we followed the road all the way back to where we started — the Ground Zero Monument. Thanks for walking with us.
