From SFMA Monogram Models TOS Battlestar Galactica Video Build Series PT I. Welcome SciFi Modelers :) In part one the video covers some methods used for doing small scale window ports on the Galactica model for lighting. The window ports were first located and then drilled out using a dremel stylus with a 1/32" drill bit. After finishing the initial drilling I used the next sized larger bit in a pin vise and counter sank all of the ports to clear the plastic burs from drilling and enlarge the port size from the inside of the model. This will give a better result on the visibility of the small ports when lit from the outside. Next, the model was primed on the inside for blocking light bleed through with flat black primer followed up with flat white. The black blocks light from going through the plastic, and the white will help to spread the light around on the inside. The main engine exhaust ports were next and I used the dremel again with a small grinding tip to remove the solid plastic centers of the exhaust ports so that I can install a piece of clear plastic from behind. I will tint the plastic with some transparent blue paint later and this area will be back lit with LED's. The next video will feature installing some lighting in the main hull and modifying the launch bays for lighting. Hope to see you there and as always, Happy Modeling :)
