Kushina Uzumaki wakes inside the seal on Naruto's stomach years too early, a fragment of chakra her husband left behind to guide their son one distant day. She watches him grow up alone in Konoha, rejected by grocers and ignored on his birthday, talking to an empty apartment because no one else will listen. Through cracks in the seal she reaches him in small ways—a warmth on cold nights, a dream of a red-haired woman defending him, a nudge to wake on time—spending chakra she cannot replace. She sees him fail the Academy exam, learn he carries the Nine-Tails, earn Iruka's headband, fight Zabuza on the bridge and Neji at the Chunin Exams, and refuse to abandon Gaara in the forest. Every time he draws on the fox's power the seal thins and she steps closer, but each moment awake costs her. When she finally speaks to him directly, her hair is fading and she knows she must sleep or vanish entirely before the day he truly needs her. He begs her to stay. She makes him promise to keep shouting, then goes back to sleep behind the gate, leaving him alone again but no longer unknown.
