She vanished on a morning run. 22 days later she was found in chains. The FBI spent years hunting the two women she described. They never existed.
On Thanksgiving morning 2016, a missing mother was found on Interstate 5 in chains, branded, and starving. She said two masked women had taken her. The FBI sent their faces around the world. Four years later, a bottle of green tea in a trash can told detectives where Sherri Papini had really been.
This is the full story of the Sherri Papini case, told through the real Shasta County Sheriff's Office interview where detectives confront her with the DNA, her husband's 911 call, the FBI sketches, and the FBI's own affidavit.
How did detectives find a man nobody had ever suspected? What did he tell the FBI about those 22 days? And why did she keep telling the same story, even after they warned her that lying to federal agents is a crime?

💬 YOUR TURN
━━━━━━━━━━
Sherri served 18 months. James Reyes drove her away, hid her, branded her shoulder (at her request, he says), and drove her back. He was never charged. Was that justice, or should he have stood in that courtroom too? Tell me in the comments.
