[sample showcase video coming soon]
[some of these restored songs are absolute treble machines, so a word of warning if you have good headphones/speakers]
my goal was to upload this on my school's 2-week summer break, and I can't believe I actually did it! they're always updateable, so if you have suggestions for any of the tracks, I can update them in the Google Drive
as I mentioned in a comment under the Star Fox 64 restoration, this was the next project up. I'm very extremely super incredibly happy to FINALLY get this out there. I first uploaded a restoration from this game almost exactly 3 years ago, and it's been an on-and-off deal since then. there are a fair few videos already on my channel, but pretty much all of them have seen updates since then, and they're more noticeable the further back the videos were uploaded. I hope everything is to everyone's liking 👉👈
my original idea for this video was to have HD, high-framerate gameplay under it from the Kirby 64 Recomp, but unfortunately progress on that seems to be slow going. (if anyone watching this is adept at coding, consider helping out! I know so many people are probably waiting for it, and all the improvements that can be made to it.) anyway, that was before I discovered the moving bar method I used in the Star Fox 64 video, and I think I'm quite used to how it works now. while that one took days to render, this one took just one day—just yesterday, in fact. I had 3 instances of DaVinci Resolve running at once, and different jobs were handed out as renders finished. good thing this didn't happen during the heatwave, or my PC might not have survived that...
basically all of the instruments are restored, but frustratingly the few that remain seem to be in-house custom samples created by Jun Ishikawa himself. those are the synth basses (non-FM), wasp/meow synths, chorused saw, triangle wave, piano smash, and the cool thing at the start of Zero Two. I tried remaking the wasp synth and chorused saw with the Helm VST, but I just don't know enough about what I'm doing to even get close. I actually successfully remade the triangle wave, but the original just has a character I couldn't figure out. it also didn't make a different in terms of quality anyway since it resolves to a sine wave
I wish I could talk about my favorite tracks and the process, but then I'd end up rambling forever. I've got another sample showcase video coming up to show each one's increased quality, so stay tuned for that. if you've read this far, thank you! and enjoy
