This is the full story of the World Apnea 2026 Pool Freediving Championships in Budapest - four days that redrew the record books and crowned two new World Champions, told through the athletes who lived it.
Across four days at the Duna Arena, 264 athletes from 60 countries logged 828 dives and covered more than 101 kilometres beneath the surface, producing four World Records, 15 continental records and 94 national records along the way.
Magdalena Solich-Talanda set the tone on day one with a Dynamic Bi-Fins World Record of 270m.
Mateusz Malina, unbeaten in Dynamic No Fins since 2014, extended his own record to 252m - then, on the final day, added a second World Record of 325m to seal the men's title.
Heike Schwerdtner pushed her Static Apnea World Record to 9:39, edging closer to the ten-minute mark.
And the women's title stayed open until the last dives of the week, where Bevin Reynolds came from behind to take it in the closest race of the championships.
This film goes behind all of it - the debutants stepping onto the world stage for the first time, Florian Dagoury chasing ten minutes and taking gold at nine, and the support between rivals that filled every corner of the arena.
The World Apnea 2026 Pool Championships took place from 30 May to 7 June 2026 at the Duna Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
