Septemvriana- - The night that would change Istanbul forever

The pogrom on the night of September 6th to 7th, 1955, is one of the darkest chapters in Istanbul's long history. Back then, Turkish nationalists destroyed everything that was not Turkish and Muslim - the night marked the beginning of Istanbul's end as a multi-ethnic city. On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Septemvriana, as the pogrom in Greece is known, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom met with contemporary witnesses and talked to them about the traumas of the past and the hopes for the future.
