Bolton Abbey is a 12th-century former Augustinian priory set within a scenic 30,000-acre estate in Wharfedale, North Yorkshire, England. Key Highlights: History: Founded in 1154 as Bolton Priory, the main monastic buildings fell into ruins following Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539. However, the nave was preserved and remains an active parish church today. The Estate: Owned by the Duke of Devonshire, the broader estate features over 80 miles of footpaths through woodlands and moors in the Yorkshire Dales. Famous Landmarks: Notable features on the estate include the iconic River Wharfe stepping stones, the ancient Strid Wood, and The Strid—a narrow, dramatic river gorge.
