Prepping for the Hungarian 25th Anniversary Liberation Day Parade. Munka ünnepe - 1st May, an Hungarian public holiday since 1946. Labor Day matched the ideals of socialism and after WWII, the Soviet regime celebrated soviet ideology and workers. There were parades all over the country and colleagues were required to join the procession, parading together representing various factories, companies and offices and encouraged to demonstrate economic progress. After the parade, there were family-friendly festivities in local parks or the main town square with street food, music, contests or amusement park attractions. Decorations of maypoles connecting new festivity to days of old. Labor Day as a public holiday in Hungary today remains, however after the end of communist rule, it's become about solidarity of workers. It is still referred to as Labor Day with no mandatory parades just family-friendly open-air events. (GRIAAA)
