/Let It Be – Lu Yehi Naomi Shemer & The Beatles Musical Arrangement & Concept by Gideon Efrati A prayer for brighter days, and all that we ask for, let it be. As we stand at a fateful turning point for our nation, Ranot Vocal Ensemble and I are honored to share our performance of "Lu Yehi" (May It Be), an arrangement that weaves together the words of poet-composer Naomi Shemer, and The Beatles. This year, as we approach the month of October - a month carrying such immense, painful weight for all of us - it feels difficult to simply utter the familiar blessing of "Shana Tova". We carry in our hearts the memory of the October 7th catastrophe, and the unimaginable price paid in human lives. Naomi Shemer wrote her own melody to the Hebrew words of "Lu Yehi" (May It Be) during the dark, difficult days of the Yom Kippur War in the autumn of 1973 - a song that became a sacred national prayer, capturing the delicate tension between a heavy, darkened cloud and the white sail of hope rising on the horizon. During these difficult times, we choose to hold on to hope. We perform this piece as a prayer for healing, rebuilding, and the necessary change we so desperately need to repair our society. We dedicate this performance to all those who have lost what they cherished most deeply, and in memory of the many whose lives were cut short - who are no longer with us, but remain forever, deeply, in our hearts. We all yearn for a new year of change, and a year in which we finally begin to repair. Gideon (Gidi) ................................................................................................................ לוּ יְהִי / Let It Be - נָעֳמִי שֶׁמֶר והביטלס (Naomi Shemer & The Beatles) תְּפִלָּה לְיָמִים טוֹבִים יוֹתֵר, וְכָל שֶׁנְּבַקֵּשׁ – לוּ יְהִי. רֶגַע לִפְנֵי כְּנִיסָתָם שֶׁל חַגֵּי תִּשְׁרֵי, בְּצֹמֶת דְּרָכִים גּוֹרָלִית זוֹ עֲבוּר מְדִינַת יִשְׂרָאֵל, אנסמבל קוֹלִי "רַנּוֹת" וְאָנֹכִי מְבַקְּשִׁים לְשַׁתֵּף אֶת הַבִּצּוּעַ לַשִּׁיר "לוּ יְהִי" – כְּרִקְמָה הַמְּשַׁלֶּבֶת בֵּין מִלּוֹתֶיהָ שֶׁל נָעֳמִי שֶׁמֶר לְשִׁירָם שֶׁל הביטלס Let it Be. הַשָּׁנָה, לִקְרַאת בּוֹאוֹ שֶׁל חֹדֶשׁ אוקטובר, הַנּוֹשֵׂא עִמּוֹ מִטְעָן כּוֹאֵב עֲבוּר כֻּלָּנוּ, לֹא קַל לְבַטֵּא אֶת הַבְּרָכָה הַשְּׁגוּרָה "שָׁנָה טוֹבָה", שֶׁכֵּן כֻּלָּנוּ נוֹשְׂאִים בְּלִבֵּנוּ אֶת הַזִּכָּרוֹן הַמַּר שֶׁל אֲסוֹן הַ -7 באוקטובר, וְאֶת הַמְּחִיר הַבִּלְתִּי נִתְפָּס שֶׁשִּׁלַּמְנוּ בְּחַיֵּי אָדָם. נָעֳמִי שֶׁמֶר כָּתְבָה מַנְגִּינָה מִשֶּׁלָּהּ לַשִּׁיר "לוּ יְהִי" בְּעִצּוּמָם שֶׁל יְמֵי מִלְחֶמֶת יוֹם הַכִּפּוּרִים שֶׁל סְתָו 1973, שִׁיר שֶׁהָפַךְ בִּמְהֵרָה לִתְפִלָּה לְאֻמִּית הַמְּבַטֵּאת אֶת הַמֶּתַח הֶעָדִין שֶׁבֵּין עָנָן שָׁחֹר כָּבֵד, לְבֵין מִפְרָשׂ לָבָן שֶׁל תִּקְוָה הַמַּפְצִיעַ בָּאֹפֶק. בִּזְמַנִּים קָשִׁים אֵלּוּ, אָנוּ בּוֹחֲרִים לְהֵאָחֵז בְּתִקְוָה, וּלְבַצֵּעַ אֶת הַשִּׁיר כִּתְפִלָּה לְרִפּוּי, לִבְנִיָּה מֵחָדָשׁ, וְלַשִּׁנּוּי הַהֶכְרֵחִי וְהֶעָמֹק שֶׁאָנוּ כֹּה זְקוּקִים לוֹ כְּדֵי לְתַקֵּן אֶת הַחֶבְרָה שֶׁלָּנוּ. אָנוּ מַקְדִּישִׁים אֶת הַבִּצּוּעַ הַזֶּה לְכָל אֵלֶּה שֶׁאִבְּדוּ אֶת הַיָּקָר לָהֶם מִכֹּל, לְזֵכֶר כֹּה רַבִּים שֶׁחַיֵּיהֶם נִגְדְּעוּ, אַךְ נוֹתָרִים לָעַד עָמֹק בְּתוֹךְ לִבֵּנוּ. כֻּלָּנוּ מְיַחֲלִים לְשָׁנָה חֲדָשָׁה שֶׁל שִׁנּוּי, וְלַשָּׁנָה בָּהּ נוּכַל לְהַתְחִיל לְתַקֵּן.
