Score in book 9 https://ale07.ru/music/notes/song/for... Andrei Yakovlevich Eshpai (1925 – 2015) was an ethnic Mari (Russian and Soviet) composer. A Red Army World War II veteran, he studied piano at Moscow Conservatory from 1948 to 1953 under Vladimir Sofronitsky, and composition under Nikolai Rakov, Nikolai Myaskovsky and Evgeny Golubev. He performed his postgraduate study under Aram Khachaturian from 1953 to 1956. From 1965-1970 he teached at Moscow conservatory. He was very popular at the time and also had a high position in the soviet composers association. He composed Piano-, Cello-, Violin-, Clarinet-, Flute-, Viola-, OboeConcertos, Horn-, Trumpet trombone concerto, 9 symphonies, and operetta, musical, ballets and more. His music had strong influences from his origin being a mari. It is often vital, very danceable and later works show influences from the bible. After 1990 the amount of dissonances in his music seem to have increased significantly. He is a tonal composer though. He was also a good pianists, but apparently only of his own works. Second great piece of this set to come.
