I told you what your children would not want. This is the correction. 🔄
A dealer I have known for twenty years called me and asked if I had any brown furniture. Any. He did not ask what period, or what wood, or what condition. Three years ago that man would not have taken a walnut sideboard off me as a gift.
Something has moved. Not everywhere, and not nearly as far as the internet is telling you — but it has moved, and it has moved toward the exact things you were told for twenty years that nobody wanted.
⭐ AND THE DETAIL THAT REFRAMES EVERYTHING: the market turned in WANTING, not in PRICE. Almost nothing on this list is a fortune — a pair of nineteenth-century oil portraits made $147 for the pair, six antique plates made $18 each. That sounds like bad news and it is the opposite. A thing somebody wants leaves your house upright, in the back of a car. A thing nobody wants leaves in a bag on the second day. Demand is not a payday. It is a rescue.
Ten things, counted down, with the real auction house and date on every figure:
🔍 The two dark portraits of people nobody can name — and why the back of the frame decides everything.
✋ The category where the same auction house sold the same material eight months apart for $5,292 and $197. Same wood. Same decade. One difference.
👀 The lamp test: the shade is the money, not the base — and the signed lamp that still only made $350.
📦 Why the ugly box is where this whole video lives, and the one sorting rule that quietly costs families the most.
🚫 And the honest half: the four things that are NOT coming back, including the best name in the business failing its estimate by a third. I would rather tell you now than let you find out across a table.
There is one thing I went looking for and could not stand up. I say so out loud in the video. There is a hole in it on purpose.
Turn it over. Read the bottom. Believe what it tells you.
