Mission 14: Into the Furnace Into the Furnace is the final campaign mission of Modern Warfare (2019). Background After capturing Hadir in the previous mission (Old Comrades), Price learns the location of Barkov's secret gas factory. Price convinces Farah Karim to join a final operation to destroy the factory and eliminate Barkov once and for all. Assault on the Factory The mission begins with a coordinated attack involving: Captain Price Kyle Garrick (Gaz) Alex Keller Farah Karim Urzikstan Liberation Force fighters Nikolai CIA support from Kate Laswell The team advances across heavily defended terrain toward Barkov's chemical facility while receiving drone and air support. Russian troops, armored vehicles, helicopters, and entrenched defenses attempt to stop the assault. Two-Team Strategy The force splits into two groups: Team 1 Captain Price Kyle Garrick Objective: Plant explosives on the facility's pipelines. Team 2 Alex Farah Objective: Reach the central furnace and plant charges that will destroy the entire factory. Alex's Sacrifice As Alex and Farah fight their way through the factory, they discover a critical problem. After years of suffering and resistance, Farah personally ends the life of the man responsible for her country's devastation. Destruction of the Factory With Barkov dead and the charges planted, Alex manually detonates the explosives. The massive chemical facility erupts in a huge explosion and is completely destroyed. The chemical weapons program that drove the entire conflict is finally eliminated. Alex is believed to have died in the blast, though later story content reveals that he survived, losing a leg in the explosion. Ending Cutscene After the mission, Captain Price meets CIA officer Kate Laswell. They discuss emerging threats and the rise of Victor Zakhaev, the son of the infamous Imran Zakhaev. Price proposes the formation of a new elite counter-terrorism unit. Laswell provides personnel files. Price begins assembling: Kyle "Gaz" Garrick Simon "Ghost" Riley John "Soap" MacTavish Price officially names the unit: Task Force 141 This moment directly sets up the story of Modern Warfare II (2022) and the future of the rebooted Modern Warfare series.
