In this video, we tackle Project 6 of the nand2tetris course - the Hack Assembler, the program that translates human-readable assembly into the binary machine code our Computer chip from Project 5 actually executes.
We derive the theory behind the translation: the Hack machine language specification, how A-instructions and C-instructions map to 16-bit binary (dest, comp, and jump fields), and how symbols are resolved - predefined symbols, labels, and variables - using a symbol table and a two-pass approach. Then we implement the full assembler step by step: the Parser, the Code module, the SymbolTable, and the main driver that ties them together.
This is part of my nand2tetris Solutions playlist, where I'm solving every nand2tetris project step by step to understand how a computer is built from the ground up, from a single NAND gate to a complete operating system.
