I had driven through countless police checkpoints in Nigeria, but this was the first time I was actually pulled over. What started as a routine stop quickly became one of the most uncomfortable experiences I’ve had since moving to Nigeria. There were moments of fear, frustration, unexpected humor, and ultimately a lesson I didn’t see coming. This isn’t a story about judging an entire country by one interaction. It’s a story about people, perception, status, and the questions that stayed with me long after I drove away. Welcome to Notes from Naija, where every day in Nigeria teaches me something I didn’t know I needed to learn. If you’ve ever had an experience that challenged your assumptions, I’d love to hear about it in the comments. If you enjoyed this story, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and join me for more Notes from Naija as I continue documenting life, leadership, culture, and everything I’m learning while living in Nigeria.
