The Valkyries Are Ready to Finish This at Ballhalla

Gabby Williams and Veronica Burton met with the media after the Valkyries’ 80-69 loss in Game 6 of the WNBA Finals, and both said the mindset now is urgency. With the series tied 3- 3, Game 7 at Chase Center is officially do or die. Burton said the team put itself in a position with a game to fall back on, but that was never supposed to be the mentality, and now this is what the Valkyries have worked and prepared for. Both players called Atlanta’s 32-point first quarter unacceptable, saying the defense was spread out and the team cleaned it up in the other quarters but cannot let that happen out of the gate. They said the early start time was not an excuse, since Atlanta played at the same time, and that setting the tone with ball pressure and physicality is how you punch first. Williams said the Valkyries upped their ball pressure in the second half and took away Atlanta’s comfort. Burton said the team feels great heading into Game 7 but knows it will not be handed to them just because it is Ballhalla. Both teams want it, she said, and it will be a dogfight. She also said the Valkyries stayed in the game and found a way back, and that their defense in the second, third, and fourth quarters looked more like them. Both players praised Laeticia Amihere for her energy, with Burton saying she was one of the only people who showed up to play the entire game and honestly changed the game for the team. On leadership, Burton said it is collective, with Williams and herself pouring life into teammates alongside Amihere, Kaitlyn Chen, and Coach Nat, and that there are no quiet huddles. 🔔 Subscribe for highlights, pressers, and everything Golden State Valkyries.
